What am I saying to my racers right before the start of a race?
The number 1 question I get about the the subject of the mental aspect of racing is this: What is the most important thought I want to remind my racers of right before the start of a race? I talked previously in other articles about "Helmet Talks". These are reminders of rules of thumb the racers can use when they are in the car before a race. But what is the dominant message if I had to keep one and throw out the rest?
The last 5 laps are yours. If I have work with a driver an I m the race with him. I don't care where you are in the race: Go balls to the walls. Your opponents are tired and you are trained not to be. That's when you get them. The last 5 are mine.
My point is and always will be: as great as the physical benefit of working out is, it is actually even more powerful for the mental benefits.
