Last weekend, Kasey Kahne and Craig Dollansky were central players in a scary flip accident at Williams Grove. (video included in story) Thanks to my friend from Minnesota, Mr. Dwane Schultz for posting this short interview on his Facebook page with Craig talking about the incident:

Up to Speed: Lebanon Valley Speedway from World of Outlaws Sprint Cars on Vimeo.

The competition is fierce out there and things happen in split seconds. Love how these two got it squared away moved forward. Glad both my guys are ok too.

Let's talk about Craig Dollansky

Craig Dollansky is a favorite in sprint racing

I first met Craig when I was announcing races for the Midwest Sprint Association in about 1973 or so. His dad was one of there top runners then. I road to a race one time with them. Bill, Craig, and his little brother Troy. Those boys were something else. They'd drive their dads truck an all sorts of crazy things. One night on the way back from races, me Craig and Troy ate a whole box o cherrios with our hands. They never forget that. Then I moved to elk river where they lived. Me being in fitnes had a gym at my house and they would come over and work out. This was about 1991 or so.

Craig and Troy were tough a still are they were squatting 225 4 sets of 20s. Craig started racing at knoxville and Troy was a top motocross racer at the time. Troy's nickname is TANK because he's built like a tank. He is still one of my best freinds and can still work out with the best of them. We were at a race one year in Donaldson, Iowa and craig was the hit of the show. He won that night. We were so excited when we jumped in my rv to head out, he drove and said all right I'm gonna drive this thing like I aint gotta dime in it. The rest is history an Craig an Troy are still on the road winning races.

My memories and thoughts about the upcoming Knoxville Nationals

My 1st knoxville nationals was 1965. I road down there in a 65 brand new Chevy super sport impala. We gave that baby a ride. We got there about 4 in the afternoon and it was packed. I was so excited. There was a big hole in a huge corn silo outside turn 2. A car the night before went over the fence an into it. It had rainned hard so the track was really wet. They did not get the feature started until like 2 am. But what a race. We were in the pits I had never seen anything like it.

Jerry Richert was big part of my first Knoxville Nationals

They lined the feature for outside introductions we were standing by Forest Lake Minnesotas Jerry Ritchert. He put on 12 coverups that night because the track was so muddy. They dropped the green and off they went. The sound of thunder the earth shaking and I am thrilled. Kenny Weld to the lead but charging fast was Jerry Blundy then he got into somebody and the yellow came out. He worked on his car and they restarted the race. Richert got hit in the nose with some mud he had to drop out with a broken bleeding nose. Meanwhile Blundy got around Weld for the lead and led till the last lap. He got caught behind a lapped car. Weld went around him on the outside and took the checker Flag. what a race wow.

Ken Weld took first in my first Knoxville Nationals. It wasn't really that long ago. (Was it?)

It is by far the most thrilling race of the year and this year is gonna be no different.

I hope Joey Saldana will be ready. He has never won it. His dad has and he is due. None of the KKR cars have. But like last year with Tim Shaffer winnig, you just never no. The dude has been running there every Saturday night, so you can never count him out. And Donny Shots, well when the big money is on the line, lookout.

You know you don't have to buy Racers Workout to email me and you don't have to talk fitness either. I am a racing fan just like you. I am always up for talking the greatest sport there is.
