No Mas Taco Bell!? How to eat Mexican food as Racer or Non-Racer looking to be fit.

What a beauty, yet so evil if not done correctly.

Don't let those innocent eyes fool you.
Racers and Fans!
Mexican Food. I love it, you love it, we all love it. Nothing says summer here in Texas like a spicy hot dish with all the sides and a cold beer. Let me tell you the Mexican food in Dallas and the surrounding areas is second to none. But like George Washington once commented about the government: Mexican food, to the fit conscious racer, is a dangerous servant and a fearful master. Not sure exactly what that means, but I think it means to keep an eye on it and go easy.
First off, I get more questions about diet than any other aspect of my Racers Workout program combined. My Racers The stories are all strikingly similar, yet very personal. It goes mostly like this: The Racers Workout student has a limited background with exercise or they do exercise but can't seem to find the right mix of diet and exercise routine to meet their goals.
Like I have said many times, fitness for Racers and Non-Racers is a puzzle. All the pieces are important to the whole. That said, I want to make sure we are clear on eating my way. (Very important. So important I will bold it and add on a silly picture): I want you to splurge now and again and thank yourself for all the hard work and dedication.

OK. This is admittedly an extreme example of splurging. Not exactly what I had in mind, but still.
Every once in a while, have that ice cream you like or that Mexican dish you love and enjoy it. There is an art to knowing how much or often you should visit "splurgeville". My rule is one time a month, all I want. Maybe another good rule is one time a week but short of all you want. You need to come up with something that works for you and doesn't make you feel like you have given up living. People who do that are not going to excel in my program. They'll drop out.
Yeah great Russ, but what about us folks that eat Mexican food regularly?
Don't worry I haven't forgot the other kind of Mexican food eater. This would be someone like me who is around it too much and likes it too much to make it a one time a month thing. What we have to do is incorporate the principles of Top Fuel Nutrition into our Mexican food choices. The folks at Beachbody put together a super article (better than I could do) on how to make intelligent choices if you want to eat Mexican food often. (and who doesn't?)
***Don't forget that Russbohaty@gmail.com is the place to contact me directly. I love hearing from my many Racers Workout students. They aren't all racers either. Not even close. A win is a win, no matter if it is on the track or wherever. I am here for you to reach whatever goal you may have.
